You have insurance for your home and auto, what about your Christmas packages?

In this blog we have discussed how the holidays can affect your home and auto insurance.  Today we want to touch on how to keep your packages safe.  Online shopping has become commonplace for most of us.  With UPS, USPS, and FedEx estimating almost 2 billion packages to be delivered during the holiday season there is a lot of opportunity for thieves to strike.  How can you keep your packages safe during this time of year?  One way to do this is to keep a close eye on your packages.  Most shippers offer tracking info on packages.   By knowing when your package will arrive you can make arrangements to be home or have a neighbor pick up your packages.  You can also ask for a signature on delivery option to insure that someone will be home to receive the package.  If you want the package delivered to your house but do not want to make arrangements to have someone be there to receive it, consider installing a package lock box.  This would be a box secured to the front porch with a code for the delivery person to input and deliver the package.  Along the same idea as a lock box, renting a PO Box for the holiday season can be a safe way to have packages delivered.  Another way you can avoid holiday piracy is to ship your packages to other places where there is someone to receive it.  Some stores will let you ship it to your local location; there you can pick it up with no hassle.  Shipping packages to work can be an option too if it is possible.  If you are shipping via FedEx or UPS, you can also ship it directly to one of their packing stores.  Wherever you are shipping your package to, it is a good idea to purchase insurance on your packages.  Just like your home and auto insurance can help you re-coop from loss, so can insurance on your packages.  Security cameras and smart door bells can be a way to keep your packages safe as well as help ward off home insurance claims.  These devices give you the ability to see what is going on at your front door, in some cases you can say something to the thief.  These tips may not be able to keep you 100 percent covered but they are a very good start.  Stay tuned to our blog for more info on safety, home insurance, auto insurance and life insurance.
