Have you set the table for safety?

Are you hosting Thanksgiving Day this year?  Have you set the table for a safe day?  Thanksgiving Day is the day associated with the most home cooking fires.  Before the day is here, check all of your fire extinguishers so that they are in working order and good to go.  You may also want to test your smoke detectors.  It is also a good idea to clean your oven.   Take some time to remove any fire hazards near your oven and cooking area.  Possibly move knives back on the counters so that little hands cannot reach them.  Be sure any electric cords are not dangling off counters as well.   Once you start cooking stay in the kitchen to keep an eye on the process.  You may also want to keep kids out of the kitchen.   When thawing your turkey check the USDA recommended guidelines for defrosting a turkey.  See link.  (https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2016/11/18/how-safely-thaw-turkey )  Remember to give yourself enough prep time to properly cook your meal.  If you are frying your turkey make sure that it is properly thawed and is fried in a well-ventilated area.  Taking a few precautions can ensure a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
