Summer road repair got you down?

By June 24, 2020August 10th, 2020Insurance

In a previous blog post we talked about some of the summer hazards that can cause you to use both your home and auto insurance.  In the post about auto insurance we talked about flooding and hydroplaning as the cause of a claim.  What other issues can summer bring?  One thing that can lead to an insurance claim is road repair.  There are two elements that can cause issues when it comes to road repair.  One is the slowing down of traffic.  It can be difficult especially on a highway to be driving at a high rate of speed and slow down to a work zone speed limit or even worse stop your car suddenly.  Hitting a barrier or other driver will result in a collision claim.  Just as in the previous post, a collision claim will be subject to your collision deductible.  A second potential issue is loose chippings form road repair.  These chippings can easily cause a chip in your windshield.  If a chip is left untreated, especially in heat, the chip can turn into a crack.  A chipped windshield that can be repaired can typically be done with no cost to you by your insurance company.  If that chip becomes a crack then, you will be subjected to your comprehensive deductible.  One thing to think about is a zero pay for your glass deductible.  Many companies offer a sub-deductible for glass insurance claims.  We will continue through the summer to look at summer related home and auto insurance issues.  You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more insurance topics and updates.
