Will summer liabilities have your insurance singing the summertime blues?

By June 10, 2021Insurance

Can summer liabilities actually make summer a hard season for your home insurance?  Most people think of the winter months when they think of insurance claims.  This may not be the case.  Summer liabilities for your insurance can lurk in inspected areas.  For instance, the nice weather could lead to you having more people over to your house.  This will increase your exposure for a liability claim.  In other words, your backyard BBQ could turn into a home insurance nightmare.  Before having people over inspect the areas where people will be walking.  Is there a trip hazard?  Could uneven payment lead to a person falling and getting hurt?  Trim bushes, trees and hedges.  A nice day could turn bad it someone hits their head or gets a bad cut due to low limbs or sharp ends.

All my areas are safe, let’s eat.

It is a good idea to inspect all of your cooking appliances.  In addition to a slip in fall or bump on the head, cooking appliances can lead to a home insurance claim.  A faulty grill could lead to a large insurance claim in the event that it were to explode.  In addition the same can be said about any type of outdoor cooking appliance.  Inspect lines, ignition areas and and areas that contain gas and fire.  After that look around the area where the cooking device is located.  Is it free of flammables or anything that could catch fire?

Is there anything else?

Summer time if you have kids means more kids at the house if you have guest.  Be sure to make sure you house is kid friendly to avoid a home insurance claim.  When having children over make sure pool areas are safe and that kids are not left unattended.  If you have a trampoline, this can be another area that can affect your home insurance.  Make sure that your trampoline is tied down and that there is safety netting around it.  A great day with friends can turn bad if a child falls or gets injured at your home.

What else can I do?
