Summer heat giving you the driving blues?

By July 16, 2020August 10th, 2020Insurance

We have had an extensive patch of hot, sunny and dry weather. The dry part is good for your auto insurance as it typically leads to less claims due to the absence of hydroplaning and lower amounts of comp losses for flooding. The higher hot temps can affect your auto insurance though through tows and roadside coverage. (Loss free discounts could be removed, tow and road service claims are typically not surchargable) Remember that the extreme heat can zap the remaining power out of your car battery. It is also a good idea to check your fluids and make sure that everything is topped off and your oil is changed regularly. What about your comfortably and that of your passengers? One simple but effective item is a window shade. Window shades typically go behind your windshield and block the sun from penetrating your car. Is your car not cooling down as fast or staying as cool as in the past? You may need to recharge your refrigerant level, however it is a good idea to have a tech look at it to make sure it is not an issue with the cabin filter or anything else. While driving in extreme heat remember to keep an eye on your engine temperature. If the car starts to overheat you can turn off the air and turn on the heater to pull some of the hot air out of the engine. The heat can take a toll on you as well, you may be more lethargic when driving during extreme heat so be aware of yourself. We hope that everyone is enjoying their summer so far.
