Most of the time when we think about summer maintenance we think about getting ready to go on a long trip. Summer heat can cause issues for you car even if its just sitting in your garage. One of the most common issues that can occur due to summer heat is a dead battery. Weakened batteries when subjected to extreme heats have a tendency to stop working. Getting a tow if you battery stops working could possibly be covered by your insurance if you have roadside or towing coverage. These auto insurance coverage’s can vary by company. A second possible issue the heat can cause just by commuting to and from work is a tire blowout. Air expands when it gets hot, which can cause in increase in tire pressure. If the pressure gets to high and the tire is weak, the tire can blow out. This at best could result in a towing claim for you and at worst a hefty collision claim with you being out your deductible. You will also want to pay attention to your car’s seals. The hotter temperatures can cause the metal of your car to expand. If the seals are weak the expansion of the metal around the seals could cause it to crack or blow out a seal. You might not notice anything from this till the car cools down and the metal contracts again. These issues may not cause you to have a large auto insurance claim but they can create a huge inconvenience. A quick once over by your mechanic could prevent some of these issues from occurring.
