Can your Labor Day weekend be a disaster for your homeowners insurance?

By August 30, 2021Insurance

Can your Labor Day weekend be a disaster for your homeowners insurance?  It could be due to potential liability issues and hazards that can damage your home.  For many people Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer.  For this reason many people have parties that involve swimming and/or cookouts.  While these activities can be a great way to end summer, they could lead to a home insurance claim on your homeowners insurance.

Cookouts and pools can be a hazard.

For many a great Labor Day weekend involves food and a pool, but this could be dangerous for your home insurance.  In the past on this blog we have talked about grill safety.  We suggest that everyone grilling take a look at this post post.  Remember to keep your grill away from your home as well as any flammables.  Also remember your pool safety this weekend, check our blog here for more pool tips.  The CDC also offers these water safety tips here.  Furthermore, keep in mind that mixing alcohol with these activities can make them more dangerous.  In addition to a pool or cookout issue, you could open yourself up to a claim if someone leaves your house drunk and gets into an accident.  A lot of things can happen that impact your homeowners insurance.

Are there any other things I should worry about?

A Labor Day weekend party can also be derailed and affect your home insurance due to pets.  Typically dogs and parties do not mix.  Loud noises and strange people can make pets skittish and act out.  A dog bite can lead to a homeowners insurance claim and a bad situation for the dog.  Allow the dog to hide and be away from people.  Also, even if the dog is friendly be careful about letting the dog be petted by strangers.
