Celebrate Fourth of July without the home insurance claims.

By June 20, 2022Insurance

Celebrating Fourth of July is a huge tradition, it does however, lead to home insurance claims.  According to USA Today, ub 2020 there were 15,600 people hospitalized with firework realted injuries. Misuse is typically the cause, as USA Today reports, 12 out 18 deaths were related to misuse.  Injuries to people were not the only issue with fireworks as according to NFPA, an estimated 19,500 fires where started by fireworks in 2018.  This resulted in a possible home insurance claim number of 105 million in property damage.  That is a large number that will impact  your home insurance premiums.

What steps can I take to stay safe?

While celebrating Fourth of July, there are some precautions you can take to keep  you safe and free of a home insurance claim.  You can start being safe with the storing of your fireworks.  Fireworks should be stored in a cool, dry place where they cannot be accessed by pets and children.  While lighting fireworks, make sure to wear eye protection and be aware of clothing lenght.  Too long of clothing could ignite.  Again keep children back and away while lighting fireworks.  Always follow the instructions on the packaging and light fireworks pointed away from people and houses far away from structures or anything flameable.  Only light one firework at a time, and never try to relight a dud.  Be sure to keep water near by in the event of a fire.  When you are done, make sure you dispose of your fireworks safely.
